Subh: Why?

Amin: aren’t you aware of his offensive comment on Mamata Banerjee?

Subh: NO, what did he comment?

Amin: Dilip Ghosh had made comments questioning Banerjee’s identification of her father during a public speech. He said in one of his speeches, “When Didi means CM Mamata Banerjee goes to Goa, she calls herself the daughter of Goa. When she goes to Tripura, she says that she is the daughter of Tripura. She should first identify her father,”

Amin: Yes, they did. They complained against Ghosh to the EC and demanded strict action. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh even called for the cancellation of Ghosh’s candidacy in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. And just after an hour, on Wednesday, the Election Commission issued a show cause notice to Dilip Ghosh.

Subh: The EC took quick action.

Amin: Yes, the Election Commission found Ghosh’s comments offensive and violative of the Model Code of Conduct.

Dilip Ghosh’s Apology and BJP’s Response

Subh: Did Dilip Gosh apologise?

Amin: Yes, Dilip Gosh apologized for his remarks, he said he did not intend to offend anyone. He also acknowledged that his choice of words was not appropriate. The EC asked to respond to the notice by Friday at 5 pm.

Subh: And how did the BJP react to this?

Amin: BJP asked for An explanation. Dilip Gosh also stated that his party and the public were unhappy with the words he used. “If it is so, I am sorry for that…This is not the first time a controversy has erupted over my comments since I say it in the face of anyone who does any wrong,” Gosh said.

Subh: hmm. And what about other politicians, how do they react to this?

Amin: West Bengal minister Shashi Panja said “The Election Commission had assured us yesterday that they will look into it… Dilip Ghosh always uses this kind of language that is why we said that severe action has to be taken against him…”

Subh: Let’s see what happens next.

Amin: Yes. I wish politicians would stop making these types of offensive comments.
